Ambulatory ECG recording

Ambulatory ECG recording is used to try and determine a cause for palpitation. A number of electrodes are placed on the front of the chest and are connected to a monitor worn on a belt or waistband, which continually records the heart rhythm. The period of recording will vary depending on the frequency of symptoms but this may be for 24 hours or as long as 7 days.

The patient is issued with a diary card to fill in whilst wearing the heart monitor and is encouraged to carry out their normal activities whilst doing so.
